SolDAC Project Showcased at the XII CDTI Conference in Oviedo

The SolDAC project aims to revolutionize ethylene production by developing a sustainable, climate-neutral process using solar energy and air, and integrates photo-electrochemical conversion (PEC), solar spectrum splitting, and innovative direct air capture (DAC) to produce carbon-negative ethylene and ethanol.

This advanced project was honored to participate in the poster exhibition at the 12th Framework Program Conference in Spain, held in Oviedo on November 28. This event organized by the CDTI in collaboration with the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, the European Commission, the Oviedo City Council, and Sekuens (Asturian Agency for Science, Business Competitiveness and Innovation), served as a key platform for advancing discussions around the Horizon Europe, the European Union’s flagship research and innovation program.

The conference provided a comprehensive analysis of Horizon Europe’s progress, highlighting its major initiatives and achievements to date. Additionally, the event offered an opportunity to review Spain’s participation in the program, drawing valuable insights to help Spanish organizations strengthen their strategies and competitive positioning in European research and innovation. It’s worth mentioning that Spain holds a leading position in the European Union when it comes to participation in EU-funded projects. It is the first EU country coordinating these projects and ranks second, just behind Germany, in the number of projects it contributes to. Furthermore, Spain stands as the third-largest recipient of EU grants, following Germany and France.

Another significant focus of the conference was exploring perspectives on the next EU Research and Innovation Framework Program, set for the 2028-2034 period.

The SolDAC project, coordinated by the Spanish entity Comet Global Innovation SL, and supported by the Spanish partners Lomartov SL, University of Lleida and IREC, was selected to feature in the poster exhibition. This recognition underscores SolDAC’s relevance as an EU-funded project and highlights its contributions to advancing research and innovation at both national and European levels in the field of CCS and carbon-neutral fuel production.
